friends for seniors program
Too often, senior dogs are overlooked at the shelter and in rescue for their age, but we know that these special pups come with perks of their own - they often know basic commands, come fully vetted, know the ropes of being a family dog, don't need as much exercise, and just need a loving home where they can spend the rest of their days. NHPR's Friends for Seniors program is designed to connect individuals over 60 with our "senior" pups in rescue (those over 5 years old), with one very special bonus - a WAIVED adoption fee.
how does the program work?
Those eligible to become a "Friends for Seniors" approved adopter must be over 60 years old, and eligible "senior" dogs must be at least 5 years old.
get approved to adopt!
To get started, an interested adopter should submit an adoption application HERE, and select the senior dog you're interested in adopting from the list of available animals.
meet & greet
Once approved, reply to your approval email and share that you're interested in the "Friends for Seniors" program. From there, you'll get to schedule a meet & greet with your pup.
If all goes well at your meet and greet, and you're approved for participation in the program, you'll get to finalize your adoption, and the adoption fee will be completely waived.
